Coca-Cola tried to embrace diversity with its Super Bowl commercial, highlighting America’s diversity with “America the Beautiful” being sung in several languages. While it was a sentimental commercial, it was blasted on Twitter. The ad drew plenty of positive comments, with GLAAD recognizing it as the first Super Bowl spot to include a gay couple. “Including a gay family in this ad is not only a step forward for the advertising industry, but a reflection of the growing majority of Americans from all walks of life who proudly support their LGBT friends, family and neighbors as integral parts of ‘America the Beautiful,’” GLAAD CEO CEO Sarah Kate Ellis told Entertainment Weekly. In the commercial, Coke showed off the beauty of America and the many people who live here. The company even produced other versions of the commercial, which include “America the Beautiful” sung entirely in one language other than English. But some people bashed it on Twitter and Facebook. “@CocaCola has America the Beautiful being sung in different languages in a #SuperBowl commercial? We speak ENGLISH here, IDIOTS,” one person wrote, notes Twitter. Another wrote, “Dear @CocaCola : America the beautiful is sang in English. Piss off. #DontF**kWithUs.” There were also messages left on Coke’s Facebook page, although many are defending the commercial now. You can check out the commercial below: image: YouTube screenshot
