The box office results are in for the weekend and Hotel Transylvania pulled out a surprise in beating Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis’ sci-fi action romp Looper. According to IGN, Hotel Transylvania made more than double than its biggest competition, Looper, making $43 million, whereas the latter made $21.2 million. The Sony Pictures Animation film was a record for the company and became the best September opening ever, beating Sweet Home Alabama. Looper, on the other hand, will go down in the history books for being the first international release to open bigger in China than in the US, says ComingSoon.net. After last weekend’s tie, End of Watch beat out House at the End of the Street for third place making $8 million. House at the End of the Street came in fifth, beaten for fourth by Trouble With the Curve which made $7.5 million. The Jennifer Lawrence horror film made $7.2 million in its second weekend. Pitch Perfect came in sixth with $5.2 million, followed by Finding Nemo 3D with $4.1 million, and Resident Evil Retribution with $3 million. The Master continued its strong run after a limited release coming in ninth with $2.7 million. Won’t Back Down flopped and came in tenth with just $2.7 million.
