Some More Comic Book Talk

To continue on with my life long reading of comics I want to talk some more of them. It's amazing how there are so many titles that I read that I can still look at my stack and think how small it gets each day. But that's not what I'm writing this blog for. No, what I want to talk about in this blog today is about the way one story plot is being told in the whole of the Marvel and DC Comics titles.

I'm still reading mainly Marvel Comics titles than I am of DC Comics but I'm thinking about starting to read more DC titles. The thing is though I can't just pick up a title and know what is going on in it. In fact that is the main reason why I have not read any DC titles. That reason is the cross-over story plot that the 2 big companies have been doing.

What I'm talking about is how both Marvel Comics and DC Comics are having the majority to nearly all of their comic titles following along in one main story line. With Marvel it's currently the Dark Reign story line, which is the next chapter after the Secret Invasion story line which was the following story ling to Civil War.

With DC they have been doing the same by having Infinite Crisis story line, then 52 (which came out weekly going from week 1 Issue 1 and end with week 52 issue 52). At the end of that began Countdown to Final Crisis which did the same as 52 but instead of counting up it counted down. And now it's in the story line of Final Crisis.

Now the main story is in it's main titles, such as for Marvel Comics the Secret Invasion which is the main title that is 8 issues, and DC Comics Final Crisis is 7 issues. But though the main action and story line is happening in the main title all the other titles of the compaines are also having the story line in them. They're not needed but they are good to have so you know what is going on fully.

So I would really like getting into the DC Comics titles more to do so is just out of my means. I've missed way too many and though I can get caught up by going to sites like Wikipedia or others to read what happened it just is not the same as have reading the actual books.

I think the idea of this big story plot that covers and affects all the characters in the titles is really good and I actually love it. Even when I was younger I always wondered how it was that Spider-Man could be swinging around in New York doing all these deeds and getting in all this trouble with the press and with the police but none of the other superheroes would be around. Sure there was the special appearance in one issue every now and then but that was just like a friend over for a visit, they are there but nothing really happens.

So now we have these events that take place in the whole universe for these characters that actually affect them all and that is just so freaking awesome. But I come back to my problem of having to get all the titles to be able to follow along with the story line. So though I would love to read more of other titles from other companies I don't see how it's possible, unless I win the lotto and in that case I'm buying me a comic shop.

Well, that's it really for now. I just wanted to touch base some on this idea of the every title story line that is happeing in comics now but I have some ideas for future blogs. One and this one is the biggest one I have to talk about is the story of what's happened to Spider-Man in the last 3 years. Other blog ideas are deaths in comics, what's going on in the X titles, Buffy, Moon Knight, and the limit issue series that seems to keep going but just starts over with the numbering.
