Ohio has rejected a death row inmates request to have his organs donated after he passes. In inmate, 40-year-old Ronald Phillips, wanted to donate his kidney to his mother because she suffers from kidney disease. Since his execution is set to take place in July so there is not enough time to have a transplant surgery, reports Reuters. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction stated that they gave Phillips the option to have a kidney transplant, but it had to be done by March 23, 2014. State Governor John Kasich postponed his execution date from November to July so he could undergo the surgery if the state determined it OK. According to the Guardian, Phillips was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of Sheila Marie Evans, his at-the-time girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter back in 1993. Phillips attorney, Timothy Sweeney, declined to comment on the decision. The state notified him by letter that they plan to continue with Phillips’ execution as it is currently set.
