“Main Street” takes place in Durham County, NC, where the recession has hit hard. Numerous people are moving out and the city council is trying to find ways to increase their population and make their small town more attractive to outsiders. They receive a generous offer from the Environmental Services Corporation (ESC) and their spokesperson, Mr. Leroy (Colin Firth). Mr. Leroy starts by storing hazardous waste in Georgiana’s (Ellen Burstyn) bankrupt tobacco warehouse and he is offering the city a tremendous amount of money to do the same in other parts of the town. In addition to the main storyline, Harris (Orlando Bloom) is a sheriff’s deputy that is going to law school to impress Mary (Amber Tamblyn) and re-kindle their failed relationship. All the stories are intertwined and do not go according to plan.

The Blu-ray included a decent amount of extras, such as deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and trailers, but other than that, there were a few things I enjoyed about this movie. The picture quality was sharp and crisp and the music fit the mood of the movie. The sound was clear, but it was nothing spectacular. I liked the scenic shots of the town, but the rest of the movie left a lot to be desired.

Overall, I was disappointed with this movie. Having such a talented group of actor, I was expecting a lot more from Orlando Bloom, Colin Firth, and the rest of the cast. Orlando Bloom’s southern accent was a total joke and Colin Firth did not seem like he was trying hard to act at all. The movie was very slow paced and I was not sure what the movie was really about until about 45 minutes into it. It was boring and did not peak my interest at least once. The lack of an actual ending and conclusion did not help either. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “D+.”
