Happy Hunger Games! Vol. 1, Issue 2

Welcome back, tributes! Sorry I missed you last week, but there was a technical issue and all my hardwork was lost

But I am here for you this week with more Hunger Games & Catching Fire news!

I'm sure a lot of HG fans will be recieving mockingjay pins for the holiday season,  just make sure you buy it legit. Lionsgate is suing a company called Yagoozon (whaaaaaat?) for using the copyrighted symbol illegaly. {HollywoodReporter}

It's no ordinary item. A version of this pin was used on the cover of Suzanne Collins' book and also is central to therecently introduced official poster for the next film in the trilogy -- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire...

According to the 160-page complaint -- full of colorful pictures and trademark applications -- Lionsgate has licensed to third parties the rights to sell various items and merchandise. Among the licensees is the National Entertainment Collectibles Association, which sells Hunger Games calendars, card games, action figures, bookmarks, board games, bags, watches, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and, yes, a replica of the Mockingjay Pin.

These items have shown up on Amazon, so make sure you're buying from the correct company!

If you're looking for something a little more special for the HG fan in your life, check out these amazing collectable dolls from Tonner. Be warned, these dolls are not the price of your average Wal-Mart Barbie!

If you're a little strapped for cash, but still want a doll, or you just want a doll for yourself, you're in luck! The Hob is having a contest! But you have to HURRY!!

It looks like reality is about to mimic art. The CW has ordered a Hunger Games style reality show. {EW}

In The Hunt, 12 tributes teams of two are dropped into the wilderness without food, water or shelter. They must compete in a game where they’ll rely on their physicality, survival skills and hunting skills to endure the harsh conditions and kill “capture” one another.

The competition lasts a full month and the winner will receive a cash prize. No premiere date is set.

It’s been awhile since any reality show really made a successful run at a Survivor-style competition, so it will be interesting to see how this one turns out. The order follows The CW developing a drama series, The Selection, that’s been compared to The Hunger Games (the project is still alive, I’m told), and toying with the (ill-advised) idea of adapting ultra-violent Japanese cult favorite Battle Royale, which has a very similar storyline to The Hunger Games.

Perhaps The Hunt will be a way for the network to capitalize (Capitolize?) on the hit franchise, like The Vampire Diaries post-Twilight and Arrow post-Dark Knight.

Hrmmmm, I don't know about this. The entire idea seems to go specifically aganist what HG is about! What do you think? Will you watch The Selection and/or The Hunt? Let us know in the comments below!

As the year winds down you're bound to notice two trends that seem to take over all mass media: Lists & Awards and HG has not escaped these annual phenoms.

MTV  has the Top 10 Hunger Games Moments of 2012

Yahoo! is running its own Best Movies of 2012 poll and HG is nominated for several slots {TheHob}:

IMBD has listed our HG trio as some of the Top Stars of 2012

“ #2: Jennifer Lawrence

The young Academy Award-nominated star of Winter’s Bone snagged the most coveted female role this side of Bella Swan with her turn as Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of The Hunger Games which, yes, was a bulls-eye with moviegoers. Not only that, Lawrence looks to pick up her second Oscar nomination with her fetching performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. ”

#9: Josh Hutcherson

A teen no longer, the young actor earned his leading man stripes this year with the much-coveted role of Peeta Mellark in the blockbuster franchise The Hunger Games, which promised to keep him busy for the next few years, as did his other successful franchise, the continuing Journey to the… films (this year it was to a mysterious island). ”

“ Liam Hemsworth - enters top 100 at 12

Once known as Chris Hemsworth’s younger brother and/or Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend (now fiance), the Australian-born star came into his own in 2012 as the stoic and devoted Gale Hawthorne inThe Hunger Games, which guaranteed him employment for the next few years as well as a fistful of non-dystopian leading roles too. ”

Last, but not least for this week, something to look foward to in the new year! Jennifer Lawrence will host Saturday Night Live on January 19th!

Jennifer will be taking the reigns on the January 19th episode, with musical guest Lumineers. “Saturday Night Live” airs at 11:30 PM on NBC.  {HollywoodReporter}

I'll be off next week for the holiday, but I hope to see you guys next year! May the odds be ever in your favor to read more HG news next time!
