I remember the first time I popped Mean Girls into the DVD player, back when it first came out in 2004. My expectations were quite low, given what I thought was the basic gist of the movie (i.e., chick flick). Little did I know that it was actually going to be a very intelligent satire of teen culture in high school, without a ton of the dumb clichés that usually bog down attempts at capturing that demographic on the silver screen. I know now of course that a lot of the wit in Mean Girls is due to the fantastic contributions of Tina Fey. Her signature sense of self-deprecating humor is all over this and it’s much better for it.
