'Die Hard' Franchise going to Tokyo with 'Die Hardest'

While A Good Day to Die Hard failed to win over US audiences, the film managed a respectable $300 million worldwide, thus ensuring the future of rogue cop John McClane. Total Film reports that the next film, tentatively titled Die Hardest is currently in development and being penned by Ben Trebilcook and will primarily take place in Tokyo.

Trebilcook is currently working as the writer and producer of the upcoming martial arts film Knockout and reportedly helped earlier drafts for Live Free or Die Hard. Details are scarce about the plot of Die Hard 6 but we imagine it will involve John McClane and now his son wreaking havoc across Tokyo.

“It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It's also a very plausible storyline,” Trebilcook told Total Film. "Getting Larry's support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There's] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise."
