FUNimation Acquires Distribution Rights to Live-Action 'Attack on Titan' in the Americas

FUNimation, one of the most popular anime production companies, has acquired the Americas distribution rights for the Japanese live-action film Attack on Titan, based on the immensely popular manga and anime by the same name which follows a group of young soldiers who fight against these massive Titans that threaten their society. The manga has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. 

The company will be responsible for the theatrical, home entertainment, video on demand, and broadcast rights for the film across North America, Central America, and South America, begining with hosting the world premiere of the film (Part 1 in Japanese with English subtitles) on July 14 at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. The premiere will include a red carpet event featuring Haruma Miura and Kiko Mizuhara, who portray Eren and Mikasa in the film, and director Shinji Higuchi.

The Attack on Titan film is being assisted by series creator Hajime Isayama and being distributed by Toho in Japan. The film will release in two parts on August 1 and September 19. It will then premiere in movie theaers in America later this fall.

Fans eager to learn more about the live-action film adaptation can visit FUNimation's booth at San Diego Comic-Con, where Attack on Titan director Shinji Higuchi will be signing autographs on Sunday, July 12, at 1:00pm PST. FUNimation has already had the distribution rights of the 25-episode anime series, which they broadcast across North America and have released to home video on Blu-ray and DVD.
