Ruby Rose Cast as Batwoman for The CW's 'Arrowverse'

The CW's Arrowverse, which includes ArrowThe Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergil, will be expanding this December when Ruby Rose suits up as Batwoman for the 2018 crossover event series, DC Comics has announced.

The news that Batwoman was joining the Arrowverse was first announced by Stephen Amell at last May's upfronts and was once again confirmed during Comic-Con's "Heroes and Villians" trailer seen below. Rose will be playing the Kate Kane iteration of Batwoman who was first introduced in 2006. "The daughter of a prominent Colonel and cousin to Bruce Wayne, in the comics, Kate has a tragic childhood in which her mother and sister are both killed after being abducted and taken hostage, leaving her to be raised by her father. Eventually accepted to West Point, Kate does very well academically until it’s discovered that she’s in a lesbian relationship with another student and chooses to leave the school rather than lie about who she is. Over time, inspired by Gotham’s most famous vigilante, Kate finds a new way to fight for justice under the guise of Batwoman."

Rose has been working steadily since her breakout performance in Netflix's Orange is the New Black, having appeared in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter 2Pitch Perfect 3, and this month's release of The Meg. She's no stranger to the action role so she should fit nicely within the Arrowverse as Batwoman. The crossover event marks the first live-action appearance of Kate Kane, and there are already talks about her getting her own spin-off television show at The CW with a 2019 premiere date.
