Twentieth Century Fox Animation is teaming with producer Shawn Levy on a big-screen adaptation of British author Roger Hargreaves’ beloved Mr. Men illustrated children's books. Levy produces through his Fox-based 21 Laps Entertainment. There’s no writer or director yet attached to the project. Hargreaves wrote 48 Mr. Men books, each of which featured a new character with a dominant trait -- such as Mr. Tickle, Mr. Happy, Mr. Greedy and Mr. Nosey. The first six titles were published in 1971. Hargreaves’ colorfully drawn characters made the stories famous, with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide in 28 countries. Hargreaves’ Mr. Men books have been adapted into four animated television series, including Renegade Animation’s The Mr. Men Show, which aired in the U.S. on the Cartoon Network and in the U.K. on Channel Five in 2008 and 2009. Fox Animation, headed by Vanessa Morrison, is next in theaters with the Jesse Eisenberg-Anne Hathaway voiced Rio, which bows April 15. |
