James Franco and Natalie Portman are two names in the film industry you can’t ignore, especially with their recent recognitions. You’d expect a film starring the two together would be an instant success, right? Oh how wrong you’d be.

Your Highness stars Danny McBride as Prince Thadeous, a lazy oaf of a son who is more interested in getting women then ruling a kingdom. Hi brother, Prince Fabious (Franco), is the complete opposite. He goes on quests, defeating all sorts of monsters and such. He’s the knight in shining armor you read about in fairytales. On the verge of Fabious’ wedding however, the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux) kidnaps his bride in a plot to become an all powerful ruler. It is now up to the two princes to rescue her and save the kingdom.

If you’ve seen David Gordon Green’s other film, Pineapple Express, then you basically know what Your Highness is all about. As expected, Drugs, sex, and childish humor run rampant. Unlike Pineapple Express however, the film fails in almost every account with its uneven jokes and jumbled plot. You’ll laugh, but it will be for all the wrong reasons.

Whether it’s the horrible accents the actors attempt to put on or hearing the same stereotypical jokes over and over again, once you’ve seen the first 10 minutes of the film, you’ve basically seen it all. In fact, all you need to do is watch the red band trailer and you’re good. Your Highness works in small doses, not a full length feature film. None of the actors live up to their full potential we've seen in the past. 

There are some redeemable moments though. Danny McBride brings out the Kenny Powers in himself for some moments and there can be a bit of subtle humor here and there. Also, the genitals of a certain horned beast provide a good laugh for the closing half of the film. Don’t worry, you can’t miss them. Then there’s the fact that the film stars Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel. Need I say more?

Overall, Your Highness doesn’t quite live up to what we’ve seen with Green in the past. All its good humor is wasted early on and you’re left with an empty shell of a film. It’s sad too because I really wanted to enjoy Your Highness.
