Dance With Barney is another release from the Barney franchise that has a lot of heart but simply fails to compete with the trend of educational kids shows of today. Still, the purple one and his friends give it their all on this release with the main episode feature, two bonus episodes, and three bonus features that tie the package together well enough.

My issue. I bought Barney stuff for my kids when they came home from the hospital. Barney on VHS, music CD’s, toys. As a parent you want the best for your kids. You want them to have fun while learning and growing. Barney offered that. Some 18+ years later I’m just saddened to see the franchise still grasping for a chance but failing to deliver something new. Honestly, the songs on this DVD predate the DVD. Is there no one left in the Barney camp that is willing to write new fun and educational songs so that the show can grow.

What I do still love about Barney is that the show still incorporates the willingness to provide glimpses of other cultures, introduce children to disabilities without making them stand out, and that, despite it all, in its watered down way, the show still strives to offer up a show built on education, tolerance, and understanding. The only thing holding it back is the fact that it has failed to adapt to the times even in the smallest sense.
