Big Bang Boom is a pop rock act from Greensboro that features Chuck Folds (brother of Ben Folds), Steve Williard and Eddie Walker. The purpose of the trio creating this band is that they wanted to give something to parents that they could listen to with their kids that wasn’t flat like a lot of kids music from the past, and unfortunately even in this golden era of great kids music, the present. Mission accomplished.

To be honest, when I saw the cover for Big Bang Boom’s latest release, Because I Said So, I assumed that it was going to be a swing album. Big Bang Boom just sounds swing to me. Instead what I found was a pop/ska/rock/surf type album that was pretty fantastic because the band manages to find the right balance between making great music for kids and still rocking out. It was like Weezer meets the Beach Boys meets The Allman Brother meets Sublime and so much more.

While the album’s music is absolutely enjoyable the trio manage to create a great set of songs that have lyrics that kids can relate to. Songs about family, fun, places to see, things to discover, and even relating the experience of getting in trouble. All of the album has audible vocals and nothing that I would consider taboo for a kids album. Just some great music, great messages, and enough awesomeness that I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that parents or even non-parents were playing this music sans kids. Well worth checking out. Enjoy.
