By Request is an exercise in talent, in my opinion, for the former The Voice contestant Charlotte Sometimes, who took requests from fans for her latest EP. The EP contains the most voted for songs, two of which are reformatted tunes from her previous albums, as well as a new track titled Magic and a cover of Pumped Up Kicks.

If you’ve been following me you know how much I love acoustic music. Unlike a lot of female singer/songwriters who simply stick with piano and ukulele Charlotte Sometimes pretty much sits down with an acoustic guitar and bares her soul without the annoying repetitiveness of that clouds her peers.

Vocals are passionate and strong with a good diverseness in style. The mix is pretty solid displaying a good balance between instrumentation and vocals. Even the cover of Pumped Up Kicks, a song I never cared for, has an ominous feel to it that makes it more about delivery then the actual song itself. To be honest, I didn’t even hone on to the fact that it was the cover until I started to recognize the lyrics.

What I think really stands up to the test is that the EP features a cover and is basically just one new song aside two older songs revamped for a total of four. Either way the performances are so passionate and raw that you’re drawn in and easily captivated enough to want to back track on CS’s previous offerings. So if you’ve never heard this artist before this is a pretty good jumping off point. Not a lot of time to invest and a pretty satisfactory experience. Give it a shot. Enjoy.
