Emily Owens M.D. (PREVIEW)
Trivia:

The Show stars Justin Hartley who played Green Arrow on The CW's Smallville.

I’d like to say that Emily Owens M.D. is some breakthrough medical dramady that’s going to set the medical drama/comedy world aflame with a shot of new innovation, but I’m not going to. The show is simply an enjoyable mish mash of already cultivated idea’s that is given charm by its lead actress Mammie Gummer (The Big C, The Good Wife) who plays the fresh faced first year intern Emily Owens at Denver Memorial Hospital.

Emily’s story begins with a narrative look at her past and how she got the nickname pits. I’ll leave you to discover that on your own. The present storyline involves her fresh start at Denver Memorial and the unexpected surprise of finding that both her crush from med school and her nemesis from high school will be her colleagues and how this fresh start is just high school all over again, as reported by Tyra Granger, the “Principles” kid.

There is the proving ceremony, the awkward romantic angle, the shock value comedy, the intense emergency room scenario’s complete with dramatic medical jargon, and of course the small victories that make it all worth it in the end. I can’t say I was extremely impressed with the writing. A car crash leaves two brothers in a world of hurt and the most obvious of details seems to escape everyone except our heroine. Highly unlikely and highly impossible to suspend disbelief on. Fortunately, as I said, Gummer’s amazing array of facial expressions and believable execution of dialogue delivery helps make those awkward moments enjoyable and there are enough subtle jokes in the mix to keep you humored, just don’t expect this to be the answer to the genre, at least not for now. Well worth checking out for Gummer’s performance and I think you’ll know if you’ll be continuing on from there or changing the channel. Either way you’ll get some enjoyment out of it.
