Extract (BLU-RAY)

On Blu-Ray:
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
Running Time:
1 Hour, 30 Minutes

Gene Simmons' character Joe Adler is a nod to Dallas-based ambulance chaser attorney Jim Adler and his "Have you been injured?!?!" local TV commercials.

Office Space was a bomb, but it turned into a warranted cult classic.  Mike Judge's follow-up, Idiocracy, was also a bomb.  Though it hasn't turned into a cult classic yet, I think it's time is coming as it is actually pretty damn funny.  Extract?  Also a bomb but don't expect any cult status...ever.

It's a dumbed down comedy, what do you want, lossless sound? Crisp imaging?  Well, you won't get it here.  Not to say it's bad, it's just not great.

Deleted scenes, extended scenes, featurette.

No gag reel?  Seriousy?  How the f*** is that possible?  The bonus features, especially without a gag reel, are boring and not worth the watch.  The movie is an apparent attempt by Mike Judge to show growth similar to Kevin Smith's attempt with Jersey Girl.  But, unlike "Jersey Girl", Extract is barely watchable and only saved by it's extremely likeable stars.  It is hard to nail down what the main plot is, which kind of takes you out of the movie as a whole.  Normally for a comedy like this, the plot wouldn't be an issue but because Judge clearly attempted to show heart, it is a major one.  The only two saving graces of this movie is the brief scenes with Ben Affleck (yeah, I said it) and the brief scene in which Jason Bateman smokes a bong.  Outside of that?  Mostly drivel.
