On their third outing Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band offer up 15 fun tracks that immerse kids and parents in a retro world of narrative radio and upbeat indie rock infused kids music.

Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band go onto my list of must hear kids bands that manage to avoid the midi backed, well intentioned but rarely felt songs of yesteryear. As I listened to the album I was reminded of bands like The Shins and Phoenix. While I have come across a ton of kids bands that have been awesome, most of them have been of the country/folk influence. This was the first time I have come across a kids band with such a cool indie edge to them.

The album is designed to play out like a story. The story of a troupe of comedic performers who are on their way out from radio and on to bigger and brighter things. Along the way they perform in skits in-between songs that include baseball humor, animal humor (Duck Ellington), and a whole host of other funny little scenes played out by the band as voice over performers.

Combine the awesome music of Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band and their fictional radio personas and you have quite a fun and imaginative kids album. I enjoyed it, and I listened to it all by myself. No doubt any kid or adult with kids (some without) will love the fantastic sounds of Lucky Diaz and company and find the simplicity of this albums comedy refreshingly fun. Enjoy.
