Listening to an EP is like someone giving you a half glass of water after you’ve been running on a hot summer day. That is if the band is good the EP will leave you wanting more while only giving you a little. Which is what they are set up for I suppose, to get the people ready and wanting more of a band. In this case the band is Night Birds and their EP is titled “Maimed for the Masses”. Here’s why I’m called this EP a tease, it only has 4 tracks on it that totals out at about 9 minutes. These songs are short and they play very quickly.

Night Birds is a young band, or at least they have the sound of a group that’s still under the legal drinking age and have just realized that they can do both, have fun and be able to play their instruments. Their music is fast, it’s kind of loud, and it’s played with a lot of enthusiasm that makes them fun to listen to. Being that the songs are short there’s not much to them but what is there is enough to tell these guys are beginning to build their skills and talent.

The first track, which is the name of the EP, opens with a short drag on the guitar that caught my attention instantly. But it only lasts for a few seconds before the fast paced playing and quick vocals begin. Instantly I went from just sitting doing nothing to doing some good old fashion head banging. The songs vibes and energy is contagious, it makes me want to get involved with the thrill of it. This punk band is what makes me like punk, the energy, the feeling of taking the world in my hands and doing what I please with it and this is how I express myself. The vocals are a lot of fast yelling but they never crack or get out of tune, and I think they are only going to get better in time. This EP by Night Birds has a youthful sound and energy to it and it’s this sound and energy that makes them good. Now I want to hear the full album so I can have my full glass of water.
