PLOT:
The saying that life’s a party, well, for Jonah (played by Ryan Kwanten) it’s actually true because his life revolves around the parties that he throws with his roommates. Their parties are wild, crazy, and they are a great place for Jonah to meet new women to hook up with. During one of the nights of hooking up with one of the girls, Jonah’s life changes forever when a lump is found. One day life was a party, the next Jonah is being told that he has testicular cancer but it can be treated with the removal of the testicle. Going through the surgery though would mean that Jonah would no longer be able to have children. His options are limited with only four weeks to find a girl that will agree to having his child before his time runs out forever.

ACTING:
Not Suitable for Children has some good acting from all the cast members, including the minor ones that appear during the search being put on by Jonah. I think the friend/roommate Gus (played by Ryan Cort) was underused. Ryan Cort gives a funny performance as the guy that loves to party so much he’s made a job out of it. There’s also the really good performance that both main actor Ryan Kwanten and Sarah Snook give with their characters. Both actors were able to show the growth of their characters from the time the movie starts to the end with Ryan in the hospital. I think if these actors had a script that was  little more fleshed out this movie would have been extremely good.

ORIGINALITY:
This was actually a different twist to a story that’s been used before. Usually the plot involves a female that faces the problem of time running out for her chances to have a child but with Not Suitable for Children it flips it to where it’s the male that will be loosing his opportunity. Though another twist is that instead of time slowly running out because of the character getting older, Jonah only has 4 weeks to get a girl pregnant before he looses the ability forever. It’s also different having such a topic of cancer being a comedy but in this case it was pulled off. I would have liked the story to have had a bit more going on with the three main characters and their life together. It seems like we are introduced to the other two characters of Stevie and Gus but are only given enough of a story to make me interested in them.

STORY:
Even though the topic of the movie is cancer the tone of the movie is lighthearted and funny. It’s a touching story that brings together some friends in a time when life would be very depressing and making it have a warm feel. It’s odd to find a movie that has such a topic of cancer being funny but this one does and it’s because of the performance of the actors.

PROGRESSION/SPEED/FLOW:
Not Suitable for Children has a good flow as the story progresses from Jonah learning of his problem to the end with him dealing with it. I liked how the focus stayed on Jonah needing to find a woman to get pregnant, even when he wasn’t in the scene it was about him, which is what keeps the story at a good pace. There’s not too much time taken showing all the different women but enough was given to show that he’s been with a lot of women. Before I knew it the movie was over, I was given a suitable closing as to what was going to happen in the future of these characters lives, and I was content with that closure.

BLU RAY:
Not an outstanding Blu Ray when it comes to having sharp quality but the picture still looks good. The reason this movie looks good is because of all the colors that enhance the mood of the scene. Most won’t notice that the colors are going with the mood of the scene but it’s there and it looks good on this Blu Ray. I also didn’t notice any grain and noise in the dark areas of the picture.

BUY/RENT/BORROW/DON'T BOTHER:
This is a strong rent to a near buy movie that’s worth watching. The character development is strong, the story actually goes somewhere, and it don’t try to be more than what it is.
