Rachel Garlin is singer/songwriter that has spent time in both California and New York. Her style can be described as a mix of folk, rock, pop, and bluegrass. Her experiences and song writing have caught the attention of her current and ever-growing fan base. She has already released 3 albums and is set to release her latest album (“Wink at July”) on April 21, 2015. Shakefire had a chance to review the album before its public release.
Besides her impressive folk-inspired instrumentals, Rachel’s greatest gifts are her vocals and her storytelling. Her voice is similar to Colby Caillat, but it is softer and a lot more soothing. She showcases her vocal range while maintaining her relaxed state. As for her song writing, her lyrics are not complex, but tell an elaborate story. However, I would have liked to have heard a bit more variety in her songs. “Spin” is the exception and by far one of my favorite songs on the whole album. I was surprised by “Wink at July” and hope to hear more from Rachel Garlin. For those reasons, I am giving this album a “B.”
