Rocket & The Ghost are a band that were put together by Kiyoshi Matsuyama. He was a founding member of a band called London Souls and worked with them for 7 years until he felt he needed a change in bands and musical direction. The band’s influences include Johnny Cash and Jack White. Rocket & The Ghost recorded their debut self-titled EP in Brooklyn, NY and it is ready to be released on November 5th.
This is a very talented band with lots of potential. They masterfully combine folk, alternative, and rock music to create a unique sound with mass appeal. Everything from the instrumentals to the lyrics to the vocals were pleasing to listen to. There were only 5 songs on the EP, but it gives a good idea of what this band is all about. If you like Keane and a more Indie version of Coldplay, Rocket & The Ghost is the band for you. My favorite song was “Shame” because it displayed the band’s versatility and had a lot of emotion being conveyed to the listeners.
My only gripe is that I want to hear more from this band. The songs were easy to listen and very enjoyable. Kiyoshi Matsuyama is a crafty musician and am impressed with him and Rocket and the Ghost. I recommend checking out this EP and staying tuned for any other new material being released by Rocket & The Ghost. For those reasons, I am giving this EP a “B.”
