It’s fitting that the series that started it all is the first to get the high definition treatment.  For a 40 year old TV series, it’s surprisingly still relevant in sci fi culture and transfers amazingly well to the new format.

QUALITY:
As I said, it’s shockingly crisp, clear and the sound is completely lossless.  The picture, at times grainy, mostly shines through and only falters during the special effects that weren’t exactly meant for high definition.

BONUS FEATURES:
Well, if you are buying it for the HD aspect, the other side of all 10 discs feature the standard edition playable in normal DVD players, and vice versa, which is a fantastic bonus.  Aside form that, each disc features a slew of bonus features, mainly in the HD format but nothing really stands out as something fans have been craving.

OVERALL:
Although the nearly $200 price tag may seem a little high, keep in mind that this is not only a 10-disc set encompassing the entire first season but also one of HD’s famous combo unit featuring the same release (minus some bonus features) on the reverse side playable in a standard DVD player making this release seem almost like a 20-disc set.
