From the company (Laika Entertainment) that helped bring “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” and “Corpse Bride” to life, comes their latest release, “The Boxtrolls,” that was released on Blu-ray and DVD on January 20, 2015. The movie follows a human boy named Eggs that is raised by the Boxtrolls, a community of mysterious creatures that live underground. When Eggs discovers he is human, his curiosity gets the best of him as he explores the human world. He quickly discovers the humans aren’t too fond of the Boxtrolls and there is a huge misunderstanding from both worlds.
“The Boxtrolls” is a very well done movie that took a lot of time to create and bring to life. Laika Entertainment is a one-of-a-kind company that worked hard to create this world and everything looked awesome. I also liked the music and the characters in the movie and thought the plot was very unique. The 3-D was also very impressive and I loved all the extras they included with the movie. My only gripe would be that “The Boxtrolls” might be a bit too scary or complex for younger audiences. Other than that, I though this movie was a masterpiece and for those reasons, I am giving “The Boxtrolls” an “A.”
