When a US space shuttle makes an unexpected landing and crashes to the earth, it brings an unwanted life form along with it. This alien infects anyone it comes in contact with and spreads like an epidemic. Psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) and her friend, Dr. Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig), must survive the infected and make out of the city alive in The Invasion.

The Invasion is a current remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers with some changes to keep it fresh. It begins by throwing the audience right into the action, somewhere in the middle of the story. It then goes back to the beginning, slowing down the pace considerably. That was the major problem with this film, there was not much suspense. Most of the movie was filled with Kidman either running from or blending in with the infected. One thing that bothered me was the style some of the scenes were presented in. They would show two different things happening at one time, using a sequence of scenes that would quickly flash back and forth. This is more annoying and confusing than anything. It is unnecessary and the film would have been much better without it.

The acting was another aspect that was well done. The cast really could act like emotionless zombies. Daniel Craig did well too, showing that he is not just the cool and suave James Bond that most of us have come to recognize him from. Nicole Kidman was just average. Some parts just did not seem to work for her. There was one scene; however, that was really well done. Both Kidman and Craig are at a dinner party and the Russian Ambassador gives this interesting explanation on humanity that explains the entire plot of the film. It is one of the great scenes of the film. It actually makes you think about it out of the context of the film, something not many thrillers do.

The Invasion is a good movie but is far from the original. It has its moments but is not fully satisfying. By the time it ends, you are left wanting more. It simply cuts off and you wonder “is that it”. This film is a good one to get away from the usual action hits that have flooded the theatre this summer, especially if you like these films.
