The Last Continent is a French documentary that chronicles the life and work of a team of scientists who are exploring the Antarctic. Specifically, their mission centers on researching the effects of global warming on the melting of the ice and the shrinking of the continent itself. All told, about 430 days of life in the Antarctic are documented.

Most of the footage captured looks amazing. This is such a remote part of the world that most of us will never witness firsthand. The sound is the usual quality for most documentaries, which is to say that it’s clear and effective throughout. But the clarity and detail of this film on Blu-Ray is stunning and beautiful.

Not a ton: about an extra hour of featurettes, extra footage and a photo gallery.

If you’re a geography/geology nut, this is definitely up your alley. Also, Donald Sutherland fans will be thrilled to know that his dulcet tones grace the English narration of this film.
