After a sizeable wait, the 2006 Foreign Language Academy Award Winner has arrived on “home video.” The scrappy, exotic and hard-hitting The Lives Of Others is a gritty film not necessarily appropriate for the Blu-Ray format, but they all have to find their way eventually…
Quality:
Gritty, purposely in order to capture the era in which the movie takes place. Unlike some purposely “ gritty” movies on blu-ray, The Lives Of Others actually retains it’s real feeling authenticity instead of a photoshop-glossed picture. The sound works similar to the picture but, at times, gets a little too gritty but it kept with the feeling of the original scope.
Bonus Features:
A making of, commentary and some deleted scenes round out an ultimately solid disc.
Overall:
A decent showing for a movie that isn’t needed on the upscale format. Some relatively intriguing bonus features, purposely gritty picture, and decent sound make for an all around solid effort.
