“Raise Your Hand” is the fifth album for the band The Not Its where they bring the beats and tempos of a rock and pop song into songs for kids. While most kids bands will make their songs just for kids where the parents or an adult wouldn't find the songs entertaining. The Not Its have the perfect name for themselves because they certainly are not its when it comes to giving the normal children songs that would be filled with repeating lyrics that make no sense but to just make kids like them. Instead, what you get on Raise You Hand are songs that have a meaning, there's a point to the lyrics, and instead of just words being sung, the songs are structured as a real song.
When I first started listening to the songs on Raise Your Hand I didn't know that The Not Its where a band doing kid songs. What I was hearing didn't quite sound like a kids song, they are more on a lines of a joking style song. Then I found out that this was a kids album and the songs just clicked right away as to why the tempos are so upbeat and the songs are so entertaining. These songs really do sound like a normal rock pop song instead of kids song. There's a good tempo being used with the instruments, the vocals are strong, and the lyrics tell lessons while being catchy.
The lessons are such like in the one song, “The Bees Knees”, the group tells about how to be kind to bees while another song is about a haircut, one is about a cat, and so on. Kids will most assuredly find the songs on this album to be good, entertaining and will want to sting along with them. The Not Its do not talk down to kids in the songs, they actually sing the songs as if they are adults that are listening to them but the lyrics are for kids. Though I did find them fun and I did enjoy listening to the songs. My favorite of the songs is “Hey 80's” and it's just for the way it sounds, an 80's tribute song and it made me laugh and like the 80's even more. This is a group that should get a lot more attention because they have crafted songs that are well played, vocals are strong and smooth, the songs can be enjoyed by both kids and adults, there are lessons to be learned in the songs, and most of all the songs are just entertaining with a lot of energy to them.
