Less then 24 hours ago I was introduced to an exceptional artist that blew my mind (Queen V). Not long after I had my mind blown away again, this time by an exceptional band called The Shakers. It was like someone took the best of Janis Joplin, Grand Ole Party, Blues Music, Rock and Roll and jam packed it all into one package.  Just, mind blown.

What sold this album, and band, for me, was the incredible chops of lead singer Jodie Schell whose delivery is all passion and power. Not to fall into complete fandom, but every note from Schell ends up being completely perfect in the context of the music.

The music? Drums are straight jam, guitars range from bluesy to mysterious as they play a subtle dance around Schells voice and the entirety of the overall bands sound, as well as shredding some pretty awesome guitar solos. Aside from a few references (which I’ve already tossed out up top) there is nothing that comes to mind that sounds anywhere close to the sound of The Shakers. So powerful, so focused. I highly suggest checking them. Their album is playing in it’s entirety at the link above to the right. Enjoy.
