When The Walking Dead premiered on AMC last year it was a huge success. Based on the comic book by the same name, the show follows a group of men, women, and children as they attempt to survive in a post apocalyptic world that is overrun by flesh-eating zombies.

While horror fans will get a good dose of zombie brains and gore, the show is very character oriented. We see how people deal with the loss of loved ones and having to leave everything behind. We see conflict unfolds between survivors as they attempt to restore some form of order to this chaotic world. Whether you're a fan of zombies or just a great story, The Walking Dead is an excellent choice.

Shot in high definition, The Walking Dead shows a grisly depiction of the world would be after an outbreak of this magnitude. Fires rage, buildings crumble, and corpses litter the streets as you're taken to a now desolate Atlanta. Let's not forget the zombies either. They look absolutely fantastic with realistic looking makeup and special effects. Flesh hangs from their dead bodies as you look into their soulless eyes. The attention to detail is astonishing. They look so real and horrific.

Even better is the audio quality. You will hear every blood curdling scream as zombies feed on unlucky victims. The sound of an ax or any other sharp object piercing one of them is utterly gruesome yet satisfying. Best of all, AMC leaves nothing to the imagination. This is definitely not for the squeamish.

The only negative aspect about the quality of the Blu-ray is that there is a constant grainy texture to the picture. While something like this is normal for blacks, seeing it in every scene is somewhat of a distraction, albeit a small one.

The Blu-ray leaves nothing to waste as all the bonus features are shot in HD as well. Everything you wanted to know about the series is detailed in the extra footage and it should occupy a decent amount of your time as you wait for Season Two to premiere. The Walking Dead: Season One is nothing short of amazing and will be a welcomed addition to anyone’s Blu-ray collection.
