What do you get when a young recovering party girl marries a man with two ex-wives and three children? You get comedy! At least that's what Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins are hoping with the show Trophy Wife they've created.

And mostly, they succeed. Malin Åkerman plays the titular Trophy Wife, Kate. She narrates as we are introduced to her old life of dancing on tables in karaoke bars, and her new husband, Pete, that she meets there, played by Bradley Whitford, and accidentally bashed him in the nose when she falls in his lap. At the hospital we meet Pete's ex-wives, Dr. Diane Buckley and Jackie - played by Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins respectively, and his three children - teenage twins from the first marriage to the doctor, and an adopted Asian child from the second marriage to the hippy.

There is little shocking or surprising here, all the jokes and situations perfectly fit with setup that has been given. All of the actors play their parts well, and personally, I'll watch Bradley Whitford in just about anything.

The only misstep of the pilot, which I hope they correct before it aires or in the later episodes, is that the narration doesn't add anything to the comedy, and in fact feels clunky. The show is clear enough that we don't need someone telling us what is happening.

I wasn't looking for another sitcom to add to my watch list, but I found one anyway.
