Death Metal can be a lot of fun to listen to at times, with it’s loud sound, fast beats, heavy lyrics, and vocals that scream out at you, it’s hard not to have enough energy in the songs to get people moving. For the most part this is exactly what you get with the band ‘Kryophere’ with their new album “Hiraeth” but only for the most part. Now I can’t say the songs don’t have energy, they do, tons and tons of it, enough that at no time could I ever say I became bored while listening to it. But, yep there’s always a but, there were moments that I wasn’t too interested in listening to the songs either.

My problem I had with “Hiraeth” is the vocals, they’re just a lot of screaming for most of the songs. Typical for being a Death Metal song but sometimes the screaming is just a lot of noise in a song. With some bands, the vocals can pull off the screaming and sound good, here, not the case. All I was getting from listening to these vocals was that they have some really good lungs to be able to scream that loudly for that long.

For the other parts that make up the song, like the beats, the sounds of the instruments, and the lyrics, 2 of those 3 I liked. Here are the 2 that I liked, the beats and sounds. Man when the screaming lets up some I was able to really enjoy listening to the energy being pumped out in the songs. With just the way the instruments are being played, the rhythms and beats are enough to make up for the anarchy that the vocals create. However, it’s the lyrics that also hurt the songs some. They are hurting the songs because I’m having a very, very hard time trying to understand what is being said. Because I don’t know what’s being said I really have no clue what the meaning of the song is, which means I can get a connection with the song. No connection is the way that leads to being uninterested in the song and that’s not a good thing to have when trying to sell records.
