I didn’t know what to expect when I threw on Secret Agent 23 Skidoo but I did know that it was a kids album. I’ve been having a pretty good streak with kids music. I haven’t really come across too much kids music that I didn’t like but I can honestly say that I didn’t care too much for Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. Not that it’s a bad album or lacking in that complex sound that has become a staple in kids music, but it just wasn’t for me.

If your new to the band they incorporate a bit of silliness with catchy hooks in their music but for the most part it’s what is commonly being referred to as Kid Hop, a mix of kids music and hip hop. I found myself skipping ahead after listening to each track about halfway through because the flow of Skidoo’s rap felt monochromatic to me and way way way old school that it just didn’t click with me after listening for a little while. I came home and threw the album on my Ipod and listened to it completely and I found that there was a bit of it that I liked. Space Cadet was pretty cool, Brainstorm was catchy, but for the most part it was the rap style incorporated on the album, it just wasn’t for me. It's obvious Skidoo and family know what their doing and their appreciation for music helps in supplying some nice beats, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it's just to late in life for me to find this kind of project interesting, but I do suggest it to people with kids and who have a love for hip hop music. Skipping back to some of Skidoo's earlier releases at his bandcamp page (located in the links) I did like some of his older stuff and suggest you check it out as well if you haven't heard it before. Skidoo manages to put a twist on age old stories and offer up a narrative on silly things that kids and parents will easily find a connection with. Unfortunately my kids are a bit too old for the album and it just didn’t appeal to me that much. As always final judgment is yours.
