Space Invadas, not to be confused with the 80’s video game, is a band that has released a sample mix tape of their songs to come. It’s a 30 minute track of the band ‘Space Invadas’ songs. Or I should say their sound since this is just supposed to be a sample of their music. Usually these sample songs are actual single set songs ranging between 1 to 8 tracks, give or take a few. This is the first that I’ve had one single non-cut track as the sample that is right under a half hour long. The sample sound is coming from their upcoming album ‘Soul:Fi Follow the Signs Mixtape’ that will be coming out late in the year.
My first impression from the first 30 seconds or so of this sample was a total fool fake. At the start there’s a small portion of another song, then some talking about traveling, and has this sound of a peaceful feel that lead me to think it was going to be like this. Then BOOM, out comes an unprepared for “Space Invadas” being said. I was a little shocked and a little disappointed when here this new techno/dance/remix sound now being played instead of that peaceful, tranquil, hypnotic sound that started it off. Though once I got past this initial let down from wanting to hear the one style yet getting another, I started to like what I was hearing.
Soul:Fi brings nothing new to the table when it comes to having a techno/dance/club mix sound but it has a good sound none the less. For the twenty-nine and half minutes that I got to listen to this one track it was only the one part at the beginning with the switch that I didn’t like. Space Invadas has a really decent groove going in their sound that would make for a good sound to dance to. Though it’s not strictly a dance only set of songs that is being played. Remarkably enough there’s still a slight mellow sound being played in with the techno sound to these songs. It would be easy to have this playing at home while doing some chores or playing some games with friends.
Vocals in this sample is different than just regular songs where the vocals is the main portion of the song. Here on Soul:Fi, because it is a techno style sound being played the vocals match the music, which is a techno rhythm to them. I can only best describe the vocals as being more like an instrument being played in the songs rather than someone singing, though it is people singing. They add to the sound making it better but I think that if the vocals where to be taken out there would not be a huge loss in sound quality. Space Invadas have a good sound to them, they play that sound well, and what I liked the most is that they have a fun, energized with a good groove sound to their music and this is what made it fun to listen to it.
