Artist: speakers Album: New Frequency Members: Keon B, Blair Taylor Genre: Rap/Hip Hop Label: Virgin Records America Tracks: 4 Type: EP Release Date: May 8, 2012 Rating: ( )Grade: A- Keon B and Blair Taylor are from New Orleans and they make up hip-hop duo known as Speakers. Their debut full album release will be released later on this year, but to wet everyone’s appetite until then, they released an EP entitled, “New Frequency.” On the EP, they have guest appearances by Nire AllDai and Travie McCoy, from Gym Class Heroes. Their sound mixes hip hop, rap, 90’s R&B and dance music to come up with their own flavor of music. There were only 4 songs on this EP, but I was blown away by all the talent and versatility showcased within each song. Their beats were catchy and ranged from club bangers to funk with a little bit of hip hop to dancy 90’s R&B grooves. The singing complemented the rapping perfectly on each song and each group member was given ample time to shine. The lyrics were thoughtful and were amusing enough to make any person on the dance floor smirk or have a full on smile. I can picture these songs being played in a club and making everyone dance. Each song was the perfect package and Speakers made each track worth listening to. I personally cannot wait for their full debut album to be released. These guys are the next big thing in Hip Hop if they stick to the formula they used on this EP. I am craving more songs from them and I am highly recommending this album to everyone. There is something for everyone on this EP and it will surely appeal to Hip hop and R&B fans that want to dance and just have fun. I loved all the songs, but ‘Runnin It” stood out the most. For those reasons, I am giving this EP an “A-.” |
