Third Parties by Static Sea is best described as acoustic. Static Sea is a duo from New Jersey. On their first album released under OverPop Music, the group decided to use as many live instruments as possible. I applaud their effort but the instruments that are supposed to be in the background overpowered some of the song lyrics. Static Sea’s vocals were not quite spot on. But in the overall scheme of things, supreme vocal talent in the music industry never stopped any show. I first thought this was a country album; the introduction strings sounded like Nashville. You start listening to about the 3rd track, and you start to think that it may be Pop or maybe even Soft Rock; you decide.
The one thing that I found interesting about Static Sea is the fact that the entire album was recorded in their apartment. I applaud any musician that can come up with a layered sound by using a laptop and a pair of desktop speakers. The time for the independent artist (in terms of bypassing the corporate studio) is now. I have to say, Third Parties was not a bad listen. I’d recommend it to anyone who I think would vibe on this genre of music.
