Artist: Steve Songs Album: Orangutan Van Genre: Kids Label: Steve Songs Inc. Tracks: 13 Type: LP Release Date: January 29, 2013 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: A+ Did You Know? 23 Skidoo special guests on the album, as do many more kids performers. This year has been pretty eventful for children’s music. I think I’ve nominated at least two dozen kids albums as being the best of the year and I’m still coming across some great albums that keep blowing my mind. Steve Songs latest, Orangutan Van, is yet another kids album that has found a permanent spot in my collection of albums that rock. The album starts off with Recess Rocks, a song that reminded me quite a bit of the current boy band sound from acts like Big Time Rush and One Direction. It’s poppy and has that radio feel that is infectious, but lyrically it’s fun and silly. Then you have a song like “A” is for silly which begins as a skit and rolls out into a song. I absolutely love the play on words on this album from this track to Song Without A Rhyme (which had me smiling from ear to ear). More silly songs include one about the most famous paper man of them all, Flat Stanley, a fun song about Bubbles, and lets not forget about the title track. Songs manages to add comedy, education, and fun in a great singer/songwriter dynamic that reminds me of Jason Mraz (first name that popped up while I was listening). The music is ultra catchy and even powerful (All In This Together- MLK) enough to make me want to share with friends who don’t even have kids. It’s that good. I highly, highly recommend. Enjoy. |
