Title: Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever Genre: Horror Starring: Michael Bowen, Rider Strong, Giuseppe Andrews, Mark Borchardt, Judah Friedlander Director: Ti West Studio: Lionsgate Runtime: 86 minutes Release Date: February 16, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D Bonus Features Gore Reel, Behind The Scenes, Trailers Picking up shortly after the original story, Paul is still alive and wanting to warn the world about the dangers of the virus. Unfortunately for Paul and the world he is unable to deliver that message. Meanwhile a local bottled water company has been taking their water from the local river and distributing it all over even to the high school. As the teens get ready for prom some odd things start happening sores break out, nails are loose, teeth fall out. By the time prom is in full swing the students are fully infected and death and blood are all around. The few that are not showing any signs of infection try to escape before it is too late; but they discover they are locked in their school quarantined. Anyone that tries to escape is shot. But the virus is volatile and easily spread, simply locking down a school cannot keep this contained. The first “Cabin Fever” had this odd, disgusting charm to it. The type of horror where you want to cover your eyes but you just can’t look away. It captured the feeling of isolation, despair, yet an unwilling need to try and survive. With this one they attempted to up the blood and gore ratio along with the numbers of those infected; but didn’t manage to capture the some grossness as the original. The disease also moves faster leaving little to no time to get character development. I know what am I talking about, character development in a horror movie? But if I don’t care or hate a single person in the story what draw is there to see them live or die? Then right when I think it is finally over, the movie continues for about another 10 minutes. Sure it helps give you an idea of what will happen in the future but it felt like an afterthought, something thrown in to attempt to give closure to a weak storyline and a set up to a potential third movie (let’s hope not). The whole movie felt predictable, generic, and was a letdown in comparison to the original. |
