Of the four members in the “supergroup” of Chickenfoot, I’ve only really followed the career of guitarist Joe Satriani. And I use the term “follow” very loosely here, as I’ve probably only heard two or three of his albums all the way through. As for the rest of the band, I was never a huge fan of Van Halen (beyond appreciating their place in rock history) and I’ve tried to get into the Red Hot Chili Peppers, without much success.

All that goes to say that I went into this DVD without much in the way of expectations…and I came out of it without being too impressed. Without disparaging the individual talents represented here, Chickenfoot just didn’t do anything for me. Not sure what’s missing here, but the parts here just don’t add up to the total of the sum in this case. These guys are obviously very talented, but I’m not sure if their various musical styles/elements mesh very well. Or I guess I should say, I don’t know if Van Halen mixed with Satriani’s guitar wizardry really works. His virtuoso style is meant to be fully unleashed and I don’t think it gets the freedom it needs in the traditional verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus/verse format. It's obvious that Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony still know how to bring the rock. And Chad Smith is a terrific drummer. It's simply that their music didn't quite gel for me.

That said, this is a pretty nice live concert release (if you’re a fan of their music). The camera work is solid and the bonus features are fun. All in all, this DVD is well put-together and worth getting if you’re a Chickenfoot fan. Otherwise, I’d suggest giving this a pass.
