Free Willy 4 is about a baby orca trapped in a lagoon at a run down amusement park, the same park where Kirra (played by Bindi Irwin, Late nature celeb Steve Irwin‘s daughter), an Australian shipped to South Africa while her father recovers from an accident, is staying with her Grandpa (Beau Bridges). Kirra falls in love with the baby orca and plans to save it from a cruel fate all the while back talking all the adults and complaining a lot (I really didn’t like this character). Can she save Willy and deliver him back to the ocean with his pod or will a greedy amusement park tycoon further down the road buy Willy for his own selfish needs?
QUALITY:
The picture here leaves much to be desired. Some scenes are vivid offering up a halfway decent display of definition and color while some look like they could have been just as easily viewed on a regular DVD viewing. A shame really as the ocean is a prominent focus point as well as some parts of the African countryside. The DTS-HD Master Audio is also just decent. A storm plays loudly with the proper effect but dialogue gets drowned out, Willy takes on two unwelcome visitors in the lagoon and dialogue struggles to compete with music and the sound of water being splashed violently. The music for the film is well balanced but to grade the film as whole there just isn’t enough magic to warrant a care.
SPECIAL FEATURES: All the special features are in HD but hardly any are worth a look, for adults anyway, kids might find some humor in them.
