Title: Slingshot Genre: Drama Starring: David Arquette, Thora Birch, Julianna Margulies, Balthazar Getty, Joely Fisher Director: Jay Alaimo Studio: Weinstein Runtime: 90 Minutes Release Date: April 24, 2007 Format: DVD MPAA Rating: Arquette and Getty, childhood friends, have made a life by conning lonely housewives. The con is simple enough on of the men keeps the wife occupied upstairs after a night of drinking while the other sneaks in and takes money, jewelry, or anything else of interesting. Skipping from town to town they find their way to a suburb in Connecticut when they get word there is money to be had. Getty starts an affair with one of the local wives; but soon falls for her daughter. As they make plans to leave and start a life together he will soon realize that sometimes loyalties to friends can be a dangerous thing. For a straight to DVD release this movie isn’t that bad though the casting is perhaps lopsided. David Arquette maybe trying to demonstrate his acting capabilities but the lack of chemistry between him and Getty is evident throughout. On the other hand the smaller roles held by actresses like Thora Birch and Julianna Margulies take over the screen. We have seen this tale before, being swept up in a dark life even though you are fighting to get out. “Slingshot” falls short of making a mark in the genre. |
