Title: The Human Contract Genre: Drama, Romantic, Suspense Starring: Jason Clarke, Paz Vega Director: Jada Pinkett Smith Studio: Sony Pictures Runtime: 107 minutes Release Date: June 24, 2009 Format: DVD MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D Paz Vega is a beautify woman. It seems that's all she'll be because everything I see her in, she plays some sex object. Then again, maybe I haven't seen enough of her. In The Human Contract, she is a free-spirited, mysterious beauty who befriends Jason Clarke, an unhappy businessman who is the exact opposite. There is nothing special about this film. It's filled with the usual mystique that goes hand in hand with the sexy pair. This is a first time attempt at directing for Jada Pinkett Smith, who is currently staring in the TNT medical drama Hawthorne. Personally, I think she should stick to acting. I wanted to be interested in the story but there was nothing to be interested in. The film moves too slowly at developing these two characters and you just want to see the conclusion of things, rather than how they get there. Delving more deeply into the film are two 'making-of' featurettes and commentary from Smith herself. It could have been interesting but I believe the fact that we have grown so accustomed to the portrayal of sex in film that there isn't much left to imagine. Instead, something that is supposed to be saucy and sensual, ends up being just another DVD on the shelf. |
