Title: Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Krystal Summers, Willam Belli, Kelexis Davenport Director: Israel Luna Studio: Breaking Glass Pictures Runtime: 90 minutes Release Date: October 24, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A- "Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives" introduces us to a new kind of superhero. We meet Bubbles Cliquot, Emma Grashun, Rachel Slurr, and Pinky La'Trimm as they are getting ready for their nightly club show. Bubbles has a nice little shiner that other girls find fishy no matter what Bubbles says. Emma convinces everyone to go out after work to meet her new flame, Nacho, and his friend at some undisclosed location. A seemingly innocent night of one-night stands turns dangerous and bloody and changes the girls' lives forever. It's silly, campy, genuinely scary in places, and actually really well made for what it is. "Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives" is a shout-out to 1970s grind house, revenge-scenario, and all sploitation movies in general. The scratchy film stock, missing scenes, and messages from theatre management complete the experience. "Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives" deals with all kinds of violence: domestic, gay, intolerance for anyone who's different. There's even a section of the movie that reminded me all too much of "The Burning Bed" with the late Farrah Fawcett. All the girls turned in great performances, but it takes a special kind of slime to be a great bad guy. Tom Zembrod is that bad guy. He relishes telling Bubbles what he's going to do to her for making him think she was a real girl. Director Israel Luna does justice to the genre and makes a fun girl empowerment film. |
