Title: Waking Madison Genre: Suspense Starring: Sarah Roemer, Elisabeth Shue, Taryn Manning Director: Katherine Brooks Studio: E1 Entertainment Runtime: 89 minutes Release Date: July 12, 2011 Format: DVD MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D- Interesting Tidbits Elisabeth Shue has acted in numerous movies such as The Karate Kid (the original version), Leaving Las Vegas, Adventures in Babysitting, and Back to the Future 2 & 3. “Waking Madison” is the story of Madison (Sarah Roemer) and her internal and external struggles with Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities). The movie switches back and forth between Madison locking herself in her apartment for 30 days and Madison in a psychiatric hospital seeking help from Dr. Barnes (Elisabeth Shue). In the hospital, Madison interacts and has to deal with other patients such as Alexis (Imogen Poots) the childish ditz, Grace (Erin Kelly) the seductress, and Margaret (Taryn Manning) the tough girl. They all play a part in Madison’s life and it all comes together in the end. There were a lot of issues with this movie that did not add to my viewing experience. I found the movie to be very slow and easy to predict. The movie was only 89 minutes long, but it felt like forever to finish because in general, there wasn’t a lot going on throughout the movie. As for the ending and the twist in the movie, I think I had it all figured out after 20 minutes making the ending anticlimactic. There were a few decent things I did like about the movie, but it was not enough to salvage it. I thought Elisabeth Shue did a great job acting and was the only major glimmer of light in this movie. Also, this DVD had a lot of extras such as trailers, deleted scenes, director commentary, and interviews with the cast. If I actually enjoyed the movie, they would have been a nice supplement. There weren’t a lot of good things to say about this movie. I thought there would be more to it than the description on the back of the DVD case, but there wasn’t. No surprises, no intrigue, and no interests from me at all. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “D-“ |
