Title: Furry Vengeance Genre: Comedy Starring: Brendan Fraser, Brooke Shields, Ken Jeong, Ricky Garcia, Matt Prokop, Skyler Samuels Director: Roger Kumble Studio: Summit Entertainment Runtime: 92 Minutes In Theatres: April 30, 2010 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Dan Sanders works for a “green” company, or so he thought. When he uproots his family from Chicago and moves them to Oregon so that he can overlook the development his company is working on there he gets in trouble not only with his wife and son but with the forest animals who wont lose their homes without a fight. In the end it all comes down to the big question of will Dan do what’s right or will his so called green company be swimming in the proverbial green (that’s money by the way)? Its hard not to point out the parallels between Furry Vengeance and that of 2007’s Evan Almighty where even the credits are similar. Man uproots his family to a natural wonderland but is to occupied with work. Kid detests him, wife worries about him, workers care but really push him to do the job. The writers for the film, John Gilbert and Michael Carnes only have one credit to their names besides this one and that’s the seldom seen Mr. Woodcock starring Billy Bob Thorton and Seann William Scott. So what do they bring to the table here? Nothing. The animals are cute with their tiny little voices and awkward expressions but they do nothing we haven’t already seen in say a film like Over the Hedge. Brendan Fraser’s career has been an up and down rollercoaster ride of mostly forgettable films and this one is no exception. He’s funny mind you but its Brendan Fraser funny. Brooke Shields could really have been played by anyone and the son takes up the mantle of typecast teens everywhere. Its funny but the film begins with music that really leads the way. Its quirky and imaginative and all together reminds you of something you’d hear on Looney Tunes. Cars spin like tops, animals attack like crazed puppets, Fraser has all the spills and snags you’d expect to see in a film like this. Your going to get your money’s worth as far as laughter goes because who couldn’t laugh at an idiot but no sooner after you leave the theater you wont think about it again. The only real comfort that I took away from the film was that it was free. Suggestions? Wait till it comes out on the television or rental (if you can’t wait) and do so on a day when you have nothing better to do. Enjoy. Pictures: |
