Show: Marked Season/Volume: 1 Genre: Other Studio: A&E Home Video Runtime: 282 minutes Release Date: May 25, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 2 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Marked takes a in depth look at tattoos and their meanings in some of the most violent and outcasted groups in the United States. This includes gangs and prisoners, among others. Every tattoo has a story and with Marked, we get to hear that story. The show is set up much like History's other popular documentary, Gangland. Each episode tends to focus on a specific group of individuals and then through interviews and footage, we learn more about said group. Only instead of learning about gangs and their leaders, we learn about tattoos. Not only do you get to learn their meanings, but you learn about the secrets hidden within the ink. Practically every group or gang has some code tied into their tattoos that symbolizes them. Sometimes it's just a simple logo, other times it's much more detailed. You'll also learn about artists and how these people actually go about getting the tattoos done, whether it's in a studio or behind cell bars. Marked is enjoyable for a few episodes and such but as a whole, it's a lot of the same stuff. There are actually a few exerts taken directly from previous episodes if you watch closely enough. The information is interesting and all the different tattoos are pretty cool so if you're into the whole art scene, you'll probably enjoy it. |
