Show: Shaun the Sheep Season/Volume: Shear Madness Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Family, Kids Studio: Lyons / Hit Ent. Runtime: 45 minutes Release Date: April 17, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: A I’ve always been a fan of Shaun the Sheep. The show manages to be hilarious even without uttering a single word, okay so the human might say “What” every now and again, but Shaun the Sheep is funny in the same way that Charlie Chaplin is hilarious. Lots of physical comedy, tons of moments where there is just great chemistry between the animals actions and the soundtrack and or sound effects, and the stories here are brilliant. Shear Madness is no exception. Loaded on this disc are 7 adventures. The first is Pig Trouble in which we find the dog has injured himself and the pigs take control of the farm. I sensed a very Orwellian like quality to this story. Will the bully pigs get away with taking advantage of their positions or will they find themselves thwarted by Shaun and or dog? Sleepless Nights was a so, so episode. Tons of hilarious physical comedy but the story seemed a bit lacking, but is made up by the remaining episodes, which are fantastic. Party Animals finds the human throwing a costume party in which he entrusts dog to deliver the invitations. One mishap and the invitations are ruined. Rather then see their human sad they devise a way to give him the costume party he’d been hoping for, sans his guests. Then you have Cat Got Your Brain? I loved this episode. Aliens come and switch the cat and Shaun’s brains and send them back home to confuse and befuddle the rest of the farm. This can’t end well for anyone. Two’s company is a sweet little episode in which a strange sheep is lost off of the back of a truck driving passed the farm. After a bit of scrub-a-dubbing the farm realizes they have on their hands a beautiful new female sheep and sparks fly between Shaun and the new gal, quite literally actually. Unfortunately dog has made it his mission to track down the owners and get the lost sheep back to where she belongs. What’s up, dog? finds a visitor to the farm who has arrived via hot air balloon. It doesn’t take long for the sheep and their curiosity to get them into a pinch when they find themselves airborne in the balloon headed for who knows where. It’s up to dog to track them down and get them and the balloon home safe before the humans find out. Finally Draw the Line is the last episode in which the farm inherits a line painting machine left unattended to by a fumbling construction worker. Artwork ensues as the animals find new and interesting uses for the line painter. The bonus features on the disc aren’t great. Sing along with Shaun is your run of the mill bonus followed by Timmy’s Tune #2 (if you’ve read my reviews before you’d know I really do not like Timmy Time so this was a negative for me). Still with great episodes like the ones on this disc you can’t go wrong. As always, final judgment is yours. Enjoy. |
