JFK’s assassination still fascinates us even after 46 years, and we have heard numerous conspiracy theories and cover-up stories. In the beginning, this documentary, which is based on the book by Steven M. Gillon, shows us the graphic assassination footage time and time again, but it is not about who killed John F. Kennedy and why. Instead, it talks about what went on in the motorcade, in the hospital and in the Air Force One, and more interestingly, what the immediate reactions of the Kennedy inner circle were in the wake of the assassination.

The focal point in this documentary is Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s reaction, which is revealed by Brigadier General Godfrey McHugh, who was President Kennedy’s military aide. The General’s accounts were only recently declassified, and according to him, LBJ delayed the take-off of the Air Force One which carried the coffin and Mrs. Kennedy. After the General was told by the pilot that “the President wants to remain in this area”, he searched for LBJ and later found him hiding and crying in the presidential bathroom. The General’s claim of what LBJ muttered is absolutely shocking. Just like many of you, I have seen a photo of LBJ taking the oath of office on board the Air Force One, therefore, it is really hard for me to picture this man being hysterical and jittery.

This documentary also reveals the cold relationship between LBJ and Robert Kennedy, as well as the political implications on the old and new administration. I cannot honestly say that I believe everything that is said in this program since the General, LBJ and most of the people who were present in the hospital or in the Air Force One are dead today. However, this documentary undeniably makes you think, and shows you the chaotic and confusing hours. Overall, this is an interesting documentary with decent quality archival footages, good reenactments, and shocking allegations and revelations. If you are interested in and open minded about the JFK assassination and its implications, it is definitely worth checking this DVD out.
