Slings & Arrows is the story of distraught play actor Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross) who is brought back from obscurity after a mental breakdown and a stint in an insane asylum to take over as Artistic Director of the fictional New Burbage Festival after his predecessor (Stephen Ouimette) dies. Geoffrey arrives to find the troupe a mess, his former lover (Martha Burns) cast in one of the lead roles, and the ghost of his predecessor following him at every turn. The Complete Collection follows the cast as they perform three plays over the course of three seasons. Hamlet, MacBeth, and King Lear all while dealing with their dysfunctional tendencies. Special guests include Rachel McAdams (The Notebook), Colm Feore (Chicago), Sarah Polley (Splice), and renowned Stratford Festival actor William Hutt in one of his last performances.

QUALITY:
Season one is absolutely terrible. Its an upconverted picture that is grainy, colors look awful, definition is soft. I find it hard to believe this is any improvement over DVD quality. Seasons two and three are slightly better properly processed with a true 1080p picture. Definition is sharp, not perfect, but where a BD should be even at mediocre quality. Colors are still slightly muted especially in skin pigmentation but overall not terrible. The biggest problem is the grain that accompanies most of the picture throughout both seasons. I really believe that this could have been done better, especially the season one disc which makes no sense to me whatsoever. Audio is good but mostly front heavy for the first two seasons. Sound comes in with a DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD MA 5.1 for Season 3. Some other features missing from the collection may be nitpicking but I would like to have had a run time on my display front. Totally unnecessary but just one of those simple features that the set goes without. Subtitles are a bit messy popping up all over the screen instead of steadily appearing at the bottom and sometimes even covering up the actors as their speaking.

behind-the-scenes featurette
