Disney and Marvel Studios have released a new trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion with a focus on Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury returning to action for one last fight against an invasion of shapeshifting Skrulls who plan to take over the planet. Secret Invasion will be released on June 21, 2023 and consist of six episodes.
Jackson’s Nick Fury was once the heart and soul of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; he was the glue that bonded all the Phase One films together as he assembled his Avenger team. The last time we saw him was in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and technically that wasn’t even the real him but the Skrull Talos disguised as him while the real Fury was off in space on a Skrull ship. Clearly things have gotten bad enough on Earth to warrant Fury’s return.
Secret Invasion will also see the return of Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle as Rhodey, and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, although the main storyline behind its comic book origins is that anybody could secretly be a Skrull in disguise so whether the characters we see in the trailer are actually them or Skrulls is up for debate. New additions to the series include Olivia Colman as MI6 agent and former ally of Fury Sonya Falsworth, Emilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, the leader of a group of rebel Skrulls.
